ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Yankees and Marlins aren't the only teams still playing baseball this year.

The New Mexico baseball team breaks into fall action next week as it will hold the team's annual "Black & Gray" World Series at Lobo Field. The best-of-five series begins Monday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. and continues Tuesday and Thursday at the same time. If necessary, Friday's Game Four will begin at 3 p.m. and Saturday's Game Five will begin at noon.

The Lobos return 15 letterwinners and six starters from last season's team that went 34-26 and finished fourth in the Mountain West Conference. UNM begins its 2004 season Feb. 20-22 when it hosts the Albuquerque Baseball Tournament at Isotopes Park.

Prior to the Fall World Series, the Lobos will hold Scout Day this Saturday, Oct. 25 at Lobo Field beginning at noon. Over 20 professional scouts are expected to be in attendance. The Lobos will run a 60-yard dash, participate in outfield and infield drills and take batting practice before holding a seven-inning intrasquad scrimmage.
