New Mexico vs. Southern Miss
UNM Head Coach Steve Alford
"I thought this was a game where our seniors really stepped up big time. Faris had some really big rebounds, he led us in board play. Dandridge and Toppert scored the way we needed them to score. I am very proud of the seniors.
We have thrown a lot at them this week and I thought they really responded. This game put a lot of pressure on the team. We are going through a period where we're not making a lot of shots. When your not making shots you have to guard. I think our defense tonight was a lot better."
Comments on the big picture for the team:
"Our rotation really got messed up tonight. We had a couple of guys who were sick (Martinez and McDonald). We are very fortunate because we had to play guys in a lot of minutes. The pressure was on us and we responded well."
Comments on closing out games:
"We have been in some tight games this year. We have been ahead or right there in every game. I thought the team really responded after a very demanding week in practice. I think we took a step forward in the toughness category."
On the crowd:
"This crowd amazes me. Here's a 3-4-basketball team and we get 13,000 fans showing up. The key to this game was the intensity of the crowd. The crowd was tremendous."
Southern Miss Head Coach Larry Eustachy
"I was proud of our guys, really proud of our guys. We had a toughness on the court. It's a tough environment; it's a tough game to officiate."
"All seven guys we play have to play well to win in this type of situation. We cannot have certain guys struggling and have a chance to win in this environment. The stars almost have to line up just right to win in this situation."
