Lobos Travel South To Battle In-State Rival

Weekly Notes

El Paso, Texas- After taking a couple of weeks off the University of New Mexico women's tennis team will travel to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP, where the Lobos will be looking to hold onto their 21-match winning steak against the Miners. From there New Mexico will head to Las Cruces, N.M. to battle the Aggies this weekend.

The Lobos will begin action at UTEP on Friday at 1 P.M. at the El Paso Tennis Club and play will continue Saturday against New Mexico State in Las Cruces at 10 A.M. and the NMSU Tennis Center.

"We are eager to compete down the road with UTEP and New Mexico State," head coach Roy Cañada said. "These are two teams who are doing well this season but I am confident we are prepared for the challenge"

Scouting UTEP
The Miners are 7-8 on the season coming off a loss to Wyoming, 7-0. UTEP is on a four match-losing streak, dropping matches to Kansas, NMSU, University of Illinois Chicago and Wyoming.

The Lobos are 21-0 all-time against the Miners. The last time these two teams met was in Lubbock, Texas on Feb. 3, 2007. New Mexico dominated UTEP defeating the Miners, 7-0.

Scouting NMSU
The Aggies, who are 5-7 on the season, are coming off a 4-3 loss to University of Illinois Chicago at home on March 6. New Mexico State has lost two in a row now dropping a, 5-2 match to Wyoming on March 5.

The Lobos are 29-2 all-time vs. the Aggies. These two teams last met on March 8, 2009 in New Mexico where the Lobos snapped their five match-losing streak defeating the Aggies, 5-2.

Washington State Recap
Laura Richardson earned her first singles victory of the season. The St. Louis, Mo. product had a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Marina Nicolas at the No. 4 singles position.

In doubles play the duo of Manumea Durie and Kristin Eggleston earned the Lobos second doubles win of the season. Through an eight-game match Durie and Eggleston defeated Jessica Gomez and Ksenia Googe, 8-6. The win was the duo's first win together.
