Amy Jaeschke scored 19 points to lead the Northwestern Wildcats to a 76-70 victory over the Dayton Flyers tonight at The Pit in the first game of the Women's Sports Foundation Challenge.
In a game that saw the lead change hands eight times, five in the second half, the Wildcats capitalized on missed opportunities by the Flyers.
In the first half the Wildcats jumped out to a 10-point lead with a 10-0 run making the score 26-16. Dayton fired right back with a 10-0 run of their own to tie the game at 26-26.
A close second half that never saw the lead grow more than five points by the Wildcats, ended up with both teams knotted at 66-66 to send the game in to overtime.
In the overtime period it was all Wildcats. A stingy Wildcat defense would only allow four overtime points by the Flyers.
Leading the way for Dayton and all scorers with 20 points, netting 15 in the first half was Brittany Holterman.
Up next for the Wildcats will be a showdown with Western Michigan in tomorrow's early game at 6 p.m. at The Pit.
