ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- The University of New Mexico men's tennis team entered the spring season with two goals in mind - get off to a strong start and beat New Mexico State.

Mission accomplished.

The Lobos vanquished their rivals from down south Saturday evening, taking down the Aggies 5-2 at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex. They are now 88-10 over New Mexico State vindicating a tough loss to the Aggies last year.

New Mexico wasted little time in establishing its intent for the evening. The Lobos scored immediate identical 8-4 wins in the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches. In the No. 1 match, Conor Berg and Ben Dunbar bested the Aggies' Arthur Surreux and Jim Brouleau, while Jadon Phillips and Phil Anderson beat NMSU's Matej Stakne and Marc Westgate. Berg and Dunbar advanced their doubles streak to an impressive 12 straight wins.

"Beating No.1 and 2 in doubles speaks volumes for our team," head coach Alan Dils said. "We've put in the hard work, and you can see the improvement and ability of our team."

Conor Berg extended his win steak to 14 in singles play, tearing through Luis Ramirez 6-3, 6-4. The Sophomore was the first to capture a point for the Lobos in singles play.

In the No.1 spot, Jadon Phillips overpowered opponent Arthur Surreaux 6-4, 7-5. Phillips' win clinched the match for the Lobos, guaranteeing a satisfying lead and victory over the Aggies.

The Lobo victory secured another 1.5 points in the Rio Grande Rivalry. New Mexico now leads the annual contest, 18-3.
