COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico guard Katie Montgomery was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, marking her third career honor, including her second this year.
Montgomery, a 5-11 junior from Lincoln, Neb., averaged 14.5 points per game last week to lead New Mexico to a 2-0 record and a perfect start to the Lobos' conference season. Montgomery shot an amazing 71.4 percent from beyond the arc and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. She also averaged 38.5 minutes per game and played all 40 minutes against Colorado State, for the seventh time this season. Against Utah, Montgomery was one of three players in double figures and led the team in assists with four. Against Colorado State, Montgomery was one of four players in double figures and had four assists with no turnovers.
For the week, Montgomery averaged 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, while collecting eight assists and one block. She shot 56.3 percent from the field (9-for-16) and was 5-for-7 from the 3-point line (.714) and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
