NEW MEXICO HEAD COACH Steve Alford QUOTES
December 11, 2010 vs. New Mexico State
"I thought that we did a lot of good things. There was an odd flow to the game. I thought our depth added to the game again. Our defense is doing a lot of good things for us.
We get Drew (Gordon) sometime in the next week. That is going to be extremely helpful to us. It will add to our depth. To get to this stage, be 7-1 and get two wins over New Mexico State; that is a big thing for us. I'm very proud of the effort tonight."
NEW MEXICO STATE ACTING HEAD COACH PAUL WEIR
Addressing the severity of Troy Gillenwater's injury:
"It was an ankle turn and it was a heavy one. With those types of things you try to go out there and play and sometimes you just can't. We'll probably know how long he'll be out tomorrow, but it's good that we had Hamidu Rahman step up and make plays for us, and without that it would have been a major difference pointswise."
On whether the team ran out of energy in the last 15 minutes of the second half:
"New Mexico played well, and, at the end of the day, they really got to us and outrebounded us. I want to say that our fatigue got to us but that's not an excuse. We had some breakdowns that we have to work on going into the next game."
NEW MEXICO PLAYER Dairese Gary
What are the differences between when you played them last week and today?
"I think we came out this time and played with a lot more intensity than when we played them last week."
How much does it help you when you have other players like Kendall Williams go out onto the floor and do good things?
"It helps a lot because I can get around to other parts of the court, set up some screens, and get different looks. It's always nice to have another point guard that can do things on the floor."
