The New Mexico State Aggies return to Lobo Field to take on the New Mexico softball team in a doubleheader on Friday, starting at noon. The Aggies, 15-17 overall, were in Albuquerque last weekend, falling to the Lobos, 3-0. They did however, win the game at New Mexico State in February, 3-1. The Lobos, 8-15 overall, are 5-1 at home.
The Lobos went 3-0 as host of the Fairfield Inn Lobo Softball Classic last week in Albuquerque. UNM is currently on a three-game winning streak, which is the longest of the season. Senior Ashley Perkins, juniors Cassie Chavez and Kristina Schmallen, and sophomore Ryanne Hodgins made the Lobo Softball Classic All-Tournament Team and Perkins earned the MWC Pitcher of the Week honor for her efforts in the win over the Aggies. Hodgins leads New Mexico in batting average (.386), at bats (83), hits (32), runs scored (13), triples (two) and stolen bases (four). She is one of five Lobos to start all 23 games and one of three to have a perfect fielding percentage.
New Mexico State is coming off a doubleheader against UTEP. The Aggies won both games, 7-5 and 10-1, respectively. Sarah Seagraves got the win in both games, throwing 12.1 innings for 15 hits, three earned runs, one walk and 15 strikeouts. Sarah O'Neill leads the team in batting avg. (.347), hits (33), doubles (11), home runs (7) and RBI (30).
