DALLAS - The University of New Mexico men's golf team shot a 7-over-par 291 in the opening round of the rain-soaked Baylor Intercollegiate. The Lobos enter the second round in second place, six strokes behind leader Texas A&M.
New Mexico's John Catlin shot a 2-under 69 in the first round and is currently tied for fourth place at even-par through five holes of the second round, one shot behind co-leaders Vince India (Iowa), Joakim Mikkelsen (Baylor) and Cameron Peck (Texas A&M) .
James Erkenbeck completed his first round having carded a 2-over 73, while Travis Ross shot a 3-over 74, Nick Geyer a 4-over 75 and Ryan Smith a 7-over 78. Sam Chavez carded a 3-over 74 playing as an individual.
Rainstorms in the Dallas area have made their impact felt at the Baylor Intercollegiate. Over three inches of rain fell on the Royal Oaks Country Club overnight during a violent thunderstorm. The rain has yet to let up through the first round of play and is forecasted to continue for the rest of the day. The rain has combined with wind gusts up to 25 miles-per-hour to provide chilly conditions.
