ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--The second day at the UNM Balloon Fiesta Invitational produced outstanding results with four Lobos advancing further into the draws. Ben Dunbar is in the finals of flight "A" main draw, Mads Hegelund is in the semifinals of flight "A" consolation, Ian Supple is in the semifinals of flight "B" consolation, and the doubles team Dunbar/Hignett is in the finals of the main draw.
In the "A' flight of the main draw, Ben Dunbar defeated Northern Arizona Rob Pezzuto in three sets with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. He advanced to the semifinals where he beat UA's Carlos Bermudez with a score of 7-5, 6-1. He will be playing in the finals against USAFA's Lance Wilhelm.
Mitch McDaniels defeated his own teammate Samir Iftikhar with a score of 6-3, 1-1 ret. He advanced to the semifinals where he fell in a tough match to USAFA's Lance Wilhelm with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.
James Hignett fell in the quarterfinals to USAFA's Lance Wilhelm with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
In the "A" flight of consolation, Mads Hegelund defeated Colorado State-Pueblo's Saul Shrom with a score of 6-0, 6-1. He moved on to the quarterfinals where he won against USAFA's Grant Taylor with the same score as he last match 6-2, 6-1. He will be facing off against NMSU's Patrick Pfister in the semifinals.
In the "B" flight of the main draw, Matthew Neeld fell in three sets to USAFA's Alex Grubbs with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
In the "B" flight of the consolation draw, Ian Supple defeated NMMI's Jose Cobo without giving up a game with a score of 6-0, 6-0. He will be facing against NMMI's Ian Honila in the semifinals.
In the doubles main draw, Corona-Saunders/Supple was defeated by USAFA's Taylor/Wilhelm with a score of 8-3.
McDaniels/Hegelund fell to USAFA's Grubbs/Kinsey with a score of 8-3.
Iftikhar/Neeld faced off against USAFA's Brandt/Young and won with a score of 8-2.
Hignett/Dunbar played NMSU's Denele/Pfister and also won but with a score of 8-4. The duo will automatically be placed in the finals.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
