The University of New Mexico Nordic Ski Team had an impressive day at the NorAm Super Tour Races in Soldier Hollow, Utah, Saturday. The Lobo women took the top three spots among collegiate skiers while the men's team took three of the top five spots among collegiate skiers.
The Lobo women competed in a 5K Freestyle race with junior Martina Stursova placing fifth overall and first among collegiate skiers. Fellow junior Lena Jensen came in sixth overall, second among NCAA participants, while sophomore Trine Lundamo placed eighth overall and third among college skiers. Three other Lobo women competed in the race, including sophomore Eva-Lena Aronsson who placed 18th overall, junior Pirkko Pulkkanen who placed 20th and junior Andrea Roberts who came in 21st.
The men also had an impressive outing, led by freshman Dirk Grimm's sixth place finish, tops among all collegiate racers. Fellow freshman Geir-Endre Rogn was the next collegiate skier to cross the finish line in 18th place overall. Another Lobo freshman, Jedd Young, rounded out the top five among collegiate skiers by placing 30th overall.
The Lobos continue their preseason schedule with a 15/30 K Pursuit race tomorrow in Soldier Hollow, Utah.
