COSTA MESA, Calif. --- University of New Mexico men's tennis team got the fall season underway in two separate events. Four Lobos traveled to Costa Mesa, Calif., for the Costa Mesa ATP Futures Tournament with hopes of staying as long as possible. All four UNM participants: Johnny Parkes, Max Jones, Graeme Kassautzki, and Kamil Pajkowski, won their first round matches to extend their stay. Second round matches will be held tomorrow.
In Las Cruces, N.M., Lobos Derek Lynch, Joe Wood, and Miles Bugby started the season at the NMSU Fall Invite. In singles, Bugby defeated Rafael Catay from Western New Mexico (6-3, 6-1). Both Lynch and Wood lost in their first round to players from the University of Arizona in singles. The doubles team of Bugby and Wood won their first round match (9-7) against Joey Farias and Hutton Jones. Lynch team up with David Flodberg from Northern Arizona to defeat Luke Hawk and Brett Proctor (8-4) in the first round of doubles.
