ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's baketball team will open the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Wednesday against Air Force. The Lobos enter the tournament as the number on seed on an eight game winning streak. UNM is 20-7 on the season and 12-2 in the MWC. New Mexico's opponent is the number eight seed Air Force Falcons, who bring a 3-24 overall record and a 0-14 conference record into Wednesday's game. Tip-off from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, is set for Wednesday at 12:00 PM and can be seen live on KRQE channel 13 or heard on 610 AM The Sports Animal.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico against the Falcons of the Air Force Academy in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: The Lobos enter tonight's game on a eight game winning streak with wins at Wyoming, San Diego State and UNLV and at home against Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, Utah and BYU. UNM is currently 20-7 on the season and 12-2 in the MWC with losses to Colorado State, Utah, No. 3 Texas, Villanova, South Carolina, San Francisco and Arizona and wins over Southern Cal, Cal State Fullerton, Youngstown State, Texas Southern, Tennessee State, New Mexico State, New Mexico Highlands, Air Force, BYU, San Diego State and UNLV. The Lobos are led in scoring and rebounding by junior forward Lindsey Arndt with 10.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg. The Lobos were led in scoring and rebounding during conference play by senior Melissa Forest at 11.4 ppg and 6.9 rpg.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS: Air Force is on an 18 game losing streak and finished in eighth place in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons are currently 3-24 on the season and finished 0-14 in the MWC. Air Force's three wins came over New Mexico Highlands, Northern Colorado and Portland. The Falcons are led in scoring by Letricia Castillo at 12.0 ppg. Leading Air Force on the boards is Shawna Neff at 5.4 rpg, while Jennifer Roesch leads the team in assists at 2.7 apg
THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan in his ninth season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 188-88 at UNM. The Falcons are under the direction of Ardie McInelly, who is in her third season at Air Force and eighth season overall. McInelly is 14-69 at Air Force and 91-131 overall.
