STANFORD, Calif. - The fourth-ranked New Mexico women's golf team placed fifth at the prestigious Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon (Oct. 19), in which nine of the 18 teams were ranked in the top 25, including six in the top 10. The Lobos finished with a three-round total of 290-292-293-875 (+11). Top-ranked Duke set a tournament record with an 845 (-19) to capture the team championship. Arizona's Erica Blasberg and Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo shared medalist honors with a seven-under 209.
Senior Katrina Leckovic (Burnaby, British Columbia) was UNM's highest finisher as she shot a two-under 214 (72-71-71) to place in a tie for ninth. Junior Shannon Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) matched her personal-best round of the fall as she carded a 70 on Sunday to finished tied for 20th (70-78-70-218). Junior Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.), the MWC Golfer of the Month for September, placed in a tie for 27th with a score of 73-72-75-220 (+4).
Freshman Ashley Rollins (Austin, Texas), who shot a hole-in-one in Saturday's round, finished with an 11-over 227 (75-74-78) to place in a tie for 51st. Sophomore Christine Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) tied for 57th with a 77-75-77-229 (+13).
New Mexico returns to action for the Landfall Tradition Collegiate Golf Tournament Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Wilmington, N.C.
