ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. DePaul ran off 20 straight points early in the second half to pull away to a 73-55 win over Idaho State in the opening game of the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Tournament at The Pit.
Forward Natasha Williams led the Blue Demons with 16 points, followed by Keisha Hampton with 10. The two post players combined to score the first 11 points of the game for the Blue Demons, with Williams adding nine during DePaul's decisive 20-point run. Oana Iacovita led Idaho State with 10 points, while three other Bengals finished with eight points each.
The Blue Demons jumped out to an early 18-8 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half and led by double figures off and on over the next 20 minutes. Idaho State managed to keep within striking distance thanks to Iacovita's efforts, trailing by only six at the half. DePaul held only a four-point lead with 16:08 left in the second half before embarking on its 20-point run to essentially put Idaho State away.
The Blue Demons extended their lead to 63-37 on a Rachel Pierson putback with just under six minutes left to grow their lead to a game-high 26.
