Former University of New Mexico men's golfer Doug Labelle (1995-98) shot a 4-under 68 to tie for 15th after the first round of the final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School in Winter Garden, Fla. Labelle leads a pack of four former Lobos who are competing in the notoriously grueling Q School for a spot on the 2008 PGA Tour. A field of 166 golfers has advanced to the final stage where only the top 25 players and ties earn a PGA Tour Card. The final stage is 108 holes from Nov. 28 - Dec. 3 played at the Orange County National Golf Center.

Other former Lobos competing in the final stage include Kent Jones (1987-90), Spencer Levin (2004-05) and Madalisto Muthiya (2002-05). Jones finished the first round tied for 41st with a 2-under 70. Levin and Muthiya both shot even-par 72s to tie for 92nd in the first round.
