ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Our preseason is winding down and the start of the season is just around the corner. We are all extremely excited and anxious to get playing. We had a really good week of practices and conditioning workouts. Each day we are picking up some new concepts and everything is coming together, it is fun to see. We ran a court circuit on Wednesday and competed against each other. Our team is definitely not lacking in competitiveness this year! It is fun to see everyone pushing each other and giving a little bit more because we want to win.

Each year during the last week of preseason, we have a tradition that the seniors don't have to participate in the last Friday workout. It is their reward for the hard work they put in over the last four years. That means that this past Friday was the last Friday running day for Eileen, Val, Georonika and I. It felt so good to get through that workout and know all that we have accomplished.

You know, that tradition kind of got me thinking about a lot of the rituals and routines that our team has. So I put together another list, this one is titled, "You know you're a UNM women's basketball player when... So, sit back, relax, and don't laugh too hard, some of them actually make a little bit of sense.

You know you're a UNM women's basketball player when...

  • You dread Friday's

  • You stand for long periods of time because you know how bad it's going to hurt your legs when you sit down

  • It's April and your classmates stare at you as you walk into class, acting as though they have never seen you in this class before.

  • An ice bath actually feels good

  • Dressing up means wearing a pair of jeans with a t-shirt

  • You wear your practice uniform to bed, so you can sleep in ten extra minutes on a Saturday morning before going to practice.

  • You never yawn with your mouth open for fear of having to do push-ups, even if you are watching TV at home.

  • You are supposed to meet a friend for lunch at noon, and as you arrive at 11:55, you apologize for being late.

  • You make your verbal commitment to come to UNM and your friends from home think it's the coolest thing you are playing international basketball.

  • You put on the Lobo uniform and run down the ramp to 10,000 screaming fans in the best arena in the country.

That wraps up this list, but don't forget to put your name on the list for season tickets this year. They are officially on sale now!
