ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- University of New Mexico senior Carrie Quinn began the 2007-08 swimming and diving season with a splash Thursday afternoon at Seidler Natatorium. With top scores on both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, Quinn qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones to be held March 13-15, 2008 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Quinn earned 284.17 points to win the 1-meter and 289.58 points to win the 3-meter.
In the first meet of the season, the Lobos defeated Northern Colorado, 252-204, in an all-relay competition. UNM captured nine first-place finishes out of a total of 12 events.
"This is a fantastic way to start the season," head coach Tracy Ljone said. "We had fast splits across the board, which set a good tone for the season. I am very proud of the girls, they had fun and worked hard."
The Lobos (1-0) will travel to Salt Lake City for the Utah Relays on Friday, Oct. 12, followed by a conference meet against BYU and Utah on Saturday, Oct. 13, also in Salt Lake City.
