COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A total of 108 University of New Mexico student-athletes were named to the spring 2012 Academic All-Mountain West team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. New Mexico led the Mountain West for the spring semester for the first time in conference history, and posted its most spring honorees since 2009. Boise State and UNLV rounded out the top three with 98 and 78, respectively.

Forty Lobo student-athletes were named to the fall 2011 Academic All-Mountain West team, giving UNM a grand total of 148 honorees for a second-place finish among MW schools for 2011-12. This is the ninth-straight year New Mexico has finished runner up as BYU was a perennial power house in the category, and newcomer Boise State led the conference this year with a total of 151 selections.

New Mexico's swimming and diving program led all Lobo teams with 22 honorees, which is also a new program record. The previous best for swimming and diving was 20 selections set in 2008-09.

Five Lobo programs led the MW for their respective sports: women's basketball (8), women's tennis (8), men's tennis (7), women's golf (6), and men's golf (4--three-way tie).

The eight honorees for Lobo women's tennis is a program best, topping their record of seven set last season. Men's tennis and women's golf both tied their respective program records.
