Lobos in the HOUSE!! (Literally, we are home this week and we are all excited!)
Hi Lobo Fans,
This week was an exciting week for us because we got to travel to two conference matches. On Monday we had weights and watched film to get an idea of what we would be up against with San Diego State. Then most of the team had the afternoon to catch up on school and all the things they needed to do while in the ABQ. The setters and I had an "individual practice" to make sure we were our best for the up-coming matches.
On Tuesday we all met up again for a team practice. Wednesday was traveling day, and because we were not leaving until the evening, we were able to have a practice before we went to the airport. Because we have been traveling so much, there haven't been many days that we are able to have full practices so the extra time to practice was great. Then we all went to the airport and left for San Diego.
When we got to San Diego, we had dinner planned the Anglins' home. Richard and Deanna are friends of our coach, Jeff Nelson, and have a beautiful home on Coronado Island. Finding their house in the dark was a bit of a struggle (we made many unnecessary turns) but it was a lot of fun to see all of the beautiful houses! After a great dinner we went to the hotel. My roommate was Taylor Hadfield and it was a bit bizarre when she slept upside down in the bed, with her feet where her head should have been. She is a character that girl.
Next thing we knew it was GAME DAY (my favorite kind of day)! The team headed to the San Diego State campus for our pre-match practice. It was great to see that the Anglins came to practice to support us. We rested and watched more film in the afternoon. When it was time to leave for the match we all seemed ready and confident. We got to the gym strapped on our shoes and put on a show, which we did, winning in three sets. The fans that traveled to San Diego were great. We had the entire Rio Rancho High School volleyball team, in town for a tournament, there to support us (especially their former teammate Ashley Rhoades). Most of the parents of my teammates also made the trip. Most of my dad's side of the family lives in or near San Diego and I got to see my Nana (his mother), which was just icing on the cake to our great win. Our crowd cheered in unison and made it feel like home. The team and I truly appreciate all of the support of our family, friends, and all around Lobo fans.
After celebrating the win (pool workout/rehab/party) we switched our focus to UNLV. We left for Las Vegas with one goal in mind ... WIN. We got to Las Vegas Friday afternoon, got some food and checked into the hotel. We scouted UNLV and headed to bed, so we had enough rest for the match the next day. The UNLV match was in the afternoon, so we didn't have a practice in the morning. We just headed to the gym for another performance. We seemed to have just as many people at the UNLV game as we did the SDSU game (I had 12 people there, thanks everyone!). I think that the game was a good excuse for everyone to go to Vegas, baby! Everything went as planned and we won again in three straight sets. It was a great win for us.
We got to celebrate that win when Jeff gave in and took us to Chipotle to eat, then shopping at the near by outlet mall. Because we played so early in the afternoon, we were able to fly home that night. We got to the airport around five and were home at ten that night. It was wonderful to be home on a Saturday after two wins, and to have Sunday completely off.
All in all it was a great week that included two conference wins.
Now it's time for BYU and Utah!!! Get ready Lobo fans, we are home and they are going to be good ones! We are ready to put on a show for our home crowd!
I'll see you all on Thursday for the match.
LOBOS, LOBOS, LOBOS!!!
