COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of New Mexico guard/forward Porche Torrance has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Nov. 29-Dec. 5, the conference announced Monday. This is the first weekly honor of Torrance's career. For the week, Torrance averaged 11.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game, while shooting .538 (14-26) from the field. She also averaged 34 minutes per game.
The junior was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Arizona State Classic last week and led the Lobos to a 2-1 record over the week.
In the first game of the week, Torrance tied her career-high 12 points and had nine rebounds in a 58-49 midweek road win over New Mexico State. She also went 6 of 11 from the floor against the Aggies, tying her career-high for field goals made in a game and setting a career-high for attempts.
Torrance tied career-highs with 12 points and 13 rebounds in a 64-58 win over Lamar to start the Arizona State Classic in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday. She also tied another career-high with four blocked shots against the Cardinals.
In the tournament championship game against host Arizona State, Torrance posted a career-high 14 rebounds and led the team in scoring with 10 points. She also tied a career-high with four steals in the 55-40 loss to the Sun Devils.
