Fort Worth, Texas- The University of New Mexico Women's tennis team played a competitive match against conference rival Air Force, today at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. However, it wasn't enough as the Lobos fell, 7-0 to the Falcons.
New Mexico started off with a strong doubles campaign. Freshmen Michaela Oldani and Amy Shipperd won a close match over Allie Chermel and Tahlia Smoke. The duo led, 4-1 early in the match but let the lead slip making it 8-7. Oldani and Shipperd fought hard for the win taking it at, 9-8.
Juniors Ashley Bonner and Anya Villanueva played a close match. After losing the first game the duo took the next two. After letting Christen Monreal and Hannah Dake tie the set at 6-6, Bonner and Villanueva won one more game before they fell, 9-7.
In singles action, freshman Kristin Eggleston battled till the end. The Palm Desert, Calif. product lost the first set, 6-2 to Christine Molina. Eggleston went up 2-1 in the second set. Eggleston only let Molina steal one game after that winning, 6-2. Eggleston couldn't hold on in the third set dropping a 6-4 decision.
