Towson Escapes Southern, 57-50

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Holly Mahan had 17points for Towson University as the Tigers beat Southern University at The Pit this evening, 57-50 . Kandace Davis added 15 points for the Tigers.

Mahan, in 29 minutes, shot 7 of 14 from the field, 1 of 2 behind the three-point arc, adding six rebounds for Towson.

Davis went 5 of 11 from the field in 35 minutes, including 5 of 5 from the free throw line, and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds for Towson.

Southern pulled away early with a 12-0 run in the first half to take a 16-6 lead with 11:38 remaining. Towson ended the run at 10:56 with a layup from Mahan. Southern held onto a 30-24 lead to end the first half. But Towson countered by starting the second half with an 11-2 run, to take a 35-32 lead with 15:21 to go.

Towson, 4-2 on the season, will play the winner of the New Mexico-Norfolk State contest in the Championship game of the Comcast Lobo Shootout tomorrow, 7 p.m. at The Pit. Southern, 0-5 on the season, will play the loser of the New Mexico-Norfolk State contest, tomorrow, 5 p.m. at The Pit.
