ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior Ryan Honeycutt went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Lobos in a 14-10 loss to the New Mexico State Aggies at Isotopes Park today. New Mexico tied the game at eight in the bottom of the sixth but gave up four runs in the top of the seventh and two in the top of the ninth. The Lobos fall to 8-5 on the season. The Aggies improve to 10-6 on the season.
"We are a young team," said Lobo head coach Ray Birmingham. "We didn't pitch with command tonight. If we don't pitch then we aren't going anywhere. We can hit just fine. We've go to step it up."
The Lobos got ten runs off ten hits and were led at the plate by Honeycutt. Senior Justin Howard went 2-for-5 and picked up his seventh double of the season and scored two runs. Junior All-America candidate went 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Senior Jason Oatman (0-1) picked up the loss for the Lobos. Oatman threw 1.2 innings giving up five hits and four earned runs.
The Lobos will play the Aggies Wednesday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. MT at Isotopes Park. The game will be broadcast statewide on 101.7 FM (KQTM) The TEAM.
