The University of New Mexico men's golf team finished the 2008 Morris Williams Intercollegiate in 15th place after a final round 310 today. The Lobos finished with a three round total of 920, 68 strokes over par (306-304-310). Host Texas won the event at 16-over par (291-290-287=868).
With the Lobos starting on No. 10 in the final round, junior Jon Sauer was the only one to break 40 in the first nine holes for UNM today. He carded a 5-over 76 to finish tied for 39th at 14-over (78-73-76=227). Junior Jacob Lestishen shot 77 in the third round to tie for 45th at 16-over (76-76-77=229). Sophomore Brandon Putnam posted a 77 to finish at 17-over (76-77-77=230) for the tournament, tying for 52nd. Sophomore Kyle Nielsen shot 80 today and finished tied for 63rd at 21-over (76-78-80=234). Junior Steve Saunders had his worst round of his collegiate career with a 91 today. He finished 77th overall at 37-over (79-80-91=250).
Bobby Hudson of Texas won the individual race at 5-under par (73-70-65=208).
The Lobos return to action this weekend when they travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The three day event will take place at the ASU Karsten Course with live scoring available on GoLobos.com
