ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--It was another exciting match for the Lobos as they swept the Falcons 7-0 in the first conference match of the season. The Lobos are now 7-0 at home with one more match to be played this weekend at home.
The Lobos kept their momentum swinging for them as they moved onto doubles.
Jadon Phillips played a very tough match against Lance Wilhelm at number one singles, going into deuce almost every game. It was a long and grueling match which all came down to who wants the win more. Jadon Phillips ultimately did as he went on to defeat Wilhelm in a three set tiebreak 12-10. The final score was Phillips 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 (12-10).
Conor Berg, keeping his streak alive, improved it to 12 wins after defeating Andy Jackson with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Samir Iftikhar seemed to have a bit of trouble at the start of the match as he faced Alex Grubbs at number four singles. He found his groove after he defeated his opponent 6-4 in the first set, going on to win the second set 6-3. The final match score was Samir Iftikhar 6-4, 6-3.
At number six singles, Mads Hegelund increases his win streak to 5 after defeating Steven Young with a score of 6-2, 6-0 clinching the match for the Lobos.
The Lobos finished the day 7-0 after an intense match against the Falcons.
"It was a good continuation of matches for us. We were playing pretty good. It was a conference opener and I thought we played pretty well. I'm glad we got that under our belts," Head Coach Alan Dils said. "Air Force has very much improved over the last couple of years. They are a much more dangerous team as shown by the results lately. To come out of that and be able to win all the matches, I thought we did very well."
The Lobos will play at 12 p.m. against BYU at home tomorrow.
