LARAMIE, Wyo.-- Senior Samantha Bevis scored on a header in the 32nd minute to lead New Mexico women's soccer over the Wyoming Cowgirls, 1-0 this afternoon. The Lobos notched their second consecutive conference win and improved to 7-3-4 on the season and 2-1-0 in Mountain West Conference play. The Cowgirls fall to 8-6-1 on the season and 2-1-0 in MWC play.
"It always feels good to win a conference game," said head coach Kit Vela. "Wyoming is a tough team to play and they are very tough to play here in Laramie. I was real proud of the way the girls kept their composure in the last fifteen minutes."
Bevis put away a corner kick from freshman Jael Fanning with a brilliant diving header as she came crashing into the box for her second goal of the season. Fanning picked up her second assist of the season.
The Lobos put on a defensive clinic forcing Wyoming to shoot from well outside the penalty box. The Lobo defense faced 16 shots with only four on goal.

The Lobo defense posted its back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season with 1-0 victories over Air Force and Wyoming. The Lobos blanked Baylor on Aug. 29, 2-0 and Drake on Sept. 5, 1-0. The Lobos last posted back-to-back shutouts in MWC play in 2007 when the Lobos shutout 27th-ranked Utah on Oct. 21 and San Diego State on Oct. 25, 0-0 in double overtime.
The Lobo offense kept constant pressure on the Wyoming defense and fired off 12 shots with three on goal.
The Lobos return home for a three-match home stand when they take on Utah on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The Lobos will team up with the ALS Association New Mexico Partner to "Kick ALS."
