    This Week: The Lobos (9-5, 1-2 MWC) return home for two Mountain West Conference matches. UNM hosts San Diego State on Thursday, Oct. 1, followed by Air Force in a Saturday matinee on Oct. 3.

    **Thursday night is Youth/Jersey Night and Jam Johnson Night. Admission is $2 and kids are encouraged to wear their team jerseys. Route 66 Casino Hotel is the match sponsor.

    • Lobos Among Tops In Attendance ... New Mexico is currently ranked 22nd in the nation with an attendance average of 1,410 fans this season. It is the first time since 1996 that the Lobos started the season with over 1,000 fans at the first seven matches of the season. The 1996 team started the season with seven consecutive matches over 1,000. The Lobos' season-high so far in 2009 is 1,911 vs. Baylor on Sept. 11. MWC member Colorado State is ranked 14th overall with an average of 1,987 fans per match. New Mexico finished the 2008 season ranked 20th in the national attendance rankings.

    • Spreading The Offense ... Lobo fans were used to seeing 2008 All-American Jeanne Fairchild pick up close to five kills per set. Now UNM is spreading the offense around. Five Lobos are averaging over 2.00 kills per set in 2009. Junior Taylor Hadfield leads the way at 2.50, followed by junior Lisa Meeter at 2.47 and senior Rose Morris at 2.41. Senior Anna Lehne is at 2.21 per set with a .304 attack percentage. Sophomore Ashley Rhoades leads the team with a .305 attack percentage, while getting 2.05 kps.

    About New Mexico (9-5, 1-2 MWC) ... The Lobos picked up their first MWC win of the season at Wyoming on Sept. 26 (3-1) ... Junior Taylor Hadfield leads the team with 2.50 kills and 2.99 points per set, one of five players with 2.00 or more kps on the season. Junior Jade Michaelsen leads UNM in assists with 9.82 per set. Sophomore Amy Wong and Meeter are 1-2 in service aces with 16 and 15 each. On defense, sophomore Allison Buck leads the MWC with a 4.13 average, while sophomore Ashley Rhoades leads UNM in blocking with 1.00 per set ... UNM placed third at the Arizona Invitational. Jade Michaelsen was named to the all-tournament team ... UNM finishes second at the 2009 Comcast Lobo Challenge to now-No. 24 Baylor. Jade Michaelsen and Rose Morris were named to the all-tournament team ... UNM won the 2009 Nike Portland Invitational with wins over American and Portland. Jade Michaelsen was named MVP of the tournament, while Lisa Meeter and Allison Buck were named to the all-tournament team ... UNM won the 2009 MCM Elegante Lobo Classic to begin the season. It is the third season in a row the Lobos have started the season 3-0 and won the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic. Anna Lehne was named the tournament MVP, and joined by Michaelsen and Buck on the all-tournament team ... The Lobos were picked third in the 2009 Mountain West Conference Preseason Poll, the same place they finished the 2008 season. The big difference this season is UNM earned three first-place votes from the voting panel of coaches and media ... Junior setter Jade Michaelsen was named MWC Preseason Co-Player of the Year by the same voting group ... Michaelsen and Morris are the team captains for 2009.

    About San Diego State (6-7, 1-2 MWC; SDSU leads the series, 27-15) ... The Aztecs, under the direction of first-year head coach Deitre Collins-Parker, is led by junior middle blocker Lauren Salisbury. Salisbury, a preseason all-conference selection, averages 2.50 kills, 3.01 points and 0.98 blocks per set and a .333 attack percentage.

    About Air Force (8-7, 0-3 MWC; UNM leads the series, 21-3) ... The Falcons, under the direction of 14th-year head coach Penny Lucas-White, will play TCU before coming to Albuquerque on Saturday. Carolina Kurtz leads AFA with 3.09 kills per set. Air Force has played every match this season on the road, except for one - Sept. 24 vs. UNLV.

    Injury update ... Lobo senior outside hitter Rose Morris will be out one more week with a finger injury suffered in the Pitt match on Sept. 12. Morris suffered the injury on a block in the fourth set with the score tied at 22-22.

    Current RPI rankings ... RichKern.com releases its RPI rankings on Monday nights. The unofficial RPI rankings, that are close to the NCAA's system, has the Lobos ranked 27 and the Lobos' Pablo ranking is 41. The Lobos ended the 2008 season ranked 66th in the NCAA RPI report.
