FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of New Mexico softball team fell to No. 2 Arizona, 9-3 at the dual diamond Titan Softball Complex. The Lobos are now 1-3 after Saturday's game of the Judi Garman Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton. New Mexico finishes up the tournament against Fresno State on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. MT. The Wildcats started the game off with a bang, when Brigette Del Ponte hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning. With one out, Lauren Schutzler hit a single to the shortstop and advanced to second when K'Lee Arredondo reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. With runners on first and second, Stacie Chambers walked to load the bases. Del Ponte came up to bat and homered to left center to put Arizona up 4-0.

Schutzler led off the third inning for the Wildcats with a double to left field. Chambers hit a home run to center field to score two runs and expand Arizona's lead to 6-0.

With one out, Cristin Anderson hit a triple to right field in the bottom of the third inning for the Lobos. Cassandra Kalapsa doubled to right center to score Anderson. Katie Gilmore walked to put runners on first and second. With two outs, Jessica Garcia doubled to center field to score Kalapsa and end the inning, 6-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman Jordyn Bledsoe hit her first home run of the season to left field with two outs to score the final run for the Lobos.

Arizona scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning and one in the top of the sixth inning to end the game ahead 9-3. The Wildcats were led by Schutzler who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and scored two runs. Del Ponte went 1-for-4 on a home run with four RBIs, and Chambers went 1-for-3 on a home run with two RBIs and scored two runs for Arizona.

New Mexico was led by Anderson who went 2-for-3 with a triple and one run scored. Garcia and Kalapsa both went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Bledsoe also went 1-for-3 with a home run.

Sarah Akamine (8-1) earned the win in the circle with 10 strikeouts and helped the Wildcats improve to 25-2 on the season.

Freshman Kari Gutierrez received the loss for the Lobos and is now 2-3 on the season. New Mexico fell to 10-15 and has one more game remaining in the Judi Garman Classic against Fresno State on Sunday. For more information regarding live scoring go to www.GoLobos.com.
