ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico freshman Katie McKernan scored the overtime game-winner to lift the Lobos past Air Force, 1-0, Saturday night in the season finale. McKernan scored her first collegiate goal in the 105th minute and helped UNM improve to 8-5-4 overall and 2-3-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons fall to 2-14-2 overall and 0-7-0 in league play.
The Lobos dominated the match throughout but couldn't find the net until the second overtime. Senior Terryn Granados led the scoring attack and found McKernan for goal.
UNM outshot Air Force, 26-6 and had 11 scored corner kicks in the match. The Lobos managed to fire eight shots on frame compared to only four by the Falcons.
The victory over Air Force marked the third consecutive season that UNM has reached the eight win plateau. The Lobos finish the year with a winning record despite not reaching the MWC Championships next week in Provo, Utah.
