COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - New Mexico senior forward Melissa Forest was named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, by MWC officials Monday morning, marking her second career award and second award this season. Forest was also named MWC Player of the Week on Feb. 2.
A 6-2 senior from Hobbs, N.M. (Hobbs HS), Forest averaged a double-double last week with 19.5 points and 13.5 rebounds as she helped the Lobos to a 2-0 mark and a share of their first MWC regular season title. In a win over Wyoming, Forest hit 6-of-8 from the field and all seven free throws, while collecting a career-high 15 rebounds. She tied a career-high with 20 points vs. Colorado State after hitting 8-of-13 field goals, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Forest also tallied 12 rebounds and a career-high six blocks vs. the Rams. For the week, Forest shot 66.7 percent from the field (14-of-21), 80 percent from the three-point line (4-of-5) and 100 percent from the charity stripe (7-of-7), while averaging 19.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game.
