SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah -- The University of New Mexico Nordic team finished its final day of competition at the 2013 U.S. Cross Country Championships with three Lobos qualifying for the Freestyle Sprint race on Tuesday in Soldier Hollow, Utah. The Nordic team begins Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association competition this weekend, Jan. 12-13, at the University of Colorado/Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitational in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
Three Lobos placed in the top 30 in the Freestyle Sprint Qualifer and went on to compete in the quarterfinals.
Mats Rudin Resaland, a sophomore newcomer from Kongsberg, Norway, placed fifth in the qualifying race. Resaland made it as far as the semi-finals -- where the top 12 freestyle sprinters raced to be a part of the final heat. He was one of two collegiate skiers to make the semi-finals. University of Alaska's Logan Hanneman advanced to the finals and placed fourth.
On the women's side, senior Linn Håvelsrud Klaesson finished 14th and sophomore Anni Nord placed 29th in the qualifier. Both of them competed among the top 30 in the quarterfinals, but did not advance.
Clara Chauvet just missed making it to the quarterfinals as the sophomore finished 31st in the qualifying race.
