WALNUT, Calif. After four weeks of solid performances, the University of New Mexico track and field team is gearing up for the homestretch as it travels to the 54th Annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., April 19-21.

With only three weeks remaining until the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, the Lobos are showcasing their talents at some nationally prominent meets over the next two weeks, starting this weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays.

New Mexico will head to Hilmer Lodge Stadium, located on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, for a showdown with some of the nation's premier talents. As the meet prides itself on being "Where The World's Best Athletes Compete", the Lobos will try to live up to that and produce some of their best marks of the season.

So far, the first month of competition has its share of strong and spectacular performances. To open the season, the Lobos tallied 29 top-ten finishes and four medals at the UTEP Springtime Invitational. A week later at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, five Lobos competed, capturing three top-15 finishes.

The Lobos best performance of the 2012 outdoor was two weeks ago at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational, the Stanford Invitational and the Sun Angel Classic. At that trio of meets, the team produced 29 top-ten finishes and seven new top-ten all-time marks at UNM, including the nation's leading men's long jump and second-leading women's 10,000-meter run.

Last week in windy and dusty conditions, the Lobos notched 22 top-15 marks at the UTEP Invitational.

Currently, the Lobo women check in with at 11th in the Women's Mountain Region Poll that was released by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday. Similarly, the Lobo men are ranked 12th in the men's version of the same poll. In the national poll, the men are ranked 40th and the women are 35th.

Live results will be located on the Mt. SAC Relays website. Check back Saturday night for a full recap of Lobo action and complete results.
