New Mexico Wins Topy Cup

FUKUSHIMA, JAPAN - The University of New Mexico men's golf team won the Topy Cup in Fukushima, Japan. The Lobos shot a third round 5-under par 283 on the par-72, 7,086-yard Tanagura Country Club and finished the tournament at 17-under par (285-279-283=847). UNM barely outdistanced Auburn by three strokes as the Tigers shot a third round 12-under par 276 and finished at 14-under par. Tohoku Fukushi finished 21-strokes back at 4-over par in third.

Junior Spencer Levin took home medalist honors with a final round 6-under par 66. Levin who led after the opening round and fell to third yesterday, finished at 11-under par (68-71-66=205) winning by four strokes. Senior Miguel Griego and sophomore Charlie Beljan also finished in the top-10. Griego finished tied for third at 6-under par (71-67-72=210), while Beljan finished tied for eighth at 2-under par (72-71-71=214). Other Lobo results were senior Jay Reynolds (74-73-76=223) and junior Mark Anderson (79-70-74-223) both finished tied for 32nd at 7-over par.

The University of New Mexico golf team returns to the links on September 17-19, for the very tough Carpet Capital Classic in Dothan, Georgia.
