ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico women's soccer recently concluded the spring with an exciting alumni weekend. The Lobos hosted one of the most successful fundraising events of the year Friday night with games and an opportunity for past and current Lobos to gather. The annual event was well attended by member of the team, parents and former players.
Saturday included a full day of soccer. The Lobos laced by the cleats against the alumni in a very entertaining game. UNM won the event but both sides had fun and enjoyed the game of soccer.
"The coaches were very pleased with the turn out of all the alumni," said UNM head coach Kit Vela. "We were excited to see the level of soccer showcased by both squads. It's a true testament to the program and the benefits of building a foundation of success."
The Lobos played Northern Arizona to a scoreless draw Sunday at Robertson Field. UNM and the Lumberjacks battled for 90 minutes to concluded the spring.
"I was very pleased with our performance against a tough NAU team," said Vela. "We look forward to our game this fall here in Albuquerque. We are very excited about the fall after taking major strides this spring. We feel very fortunate because we were able to compete against a tough schedule. This is a young team but they have matured a lot this spring. That is a direct reflection of the leadership of the future seniors."
UNM opens the 2008 schedule on August 22 at Denver. The first Lobo home game is August 24 against NAU at 1 p.m.
