ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The New Mexico softball team managed just five hits Saturday in a 3-1 loss to UNLV at Lobo Field. The Lobos dropped their second straight Mountain West Conference game and slip to 14-17 overall and 0-2 in conference action. UNM is now lost six of its last eight games. UNLV improved to 20-13 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The Lobos plated their only run in the second inning. UNM took advantage of a Rebel fielding error to plate its only run. Junior Danielle Castro led off the inning with a single to left field and eventually scored.
The Rebels scored twice in the fourth inning and added another in the fifth inning. UNLV racked up nine hits in the game with three extra base hits.
Amanda Oliveto got the win for UNLV and improved to 17-5. Oliveto pitched the full seven innings, allowing a run on five hits.
Sophomore Kari Gutierrez took the loss for UNM and fell to 6-7. Gutierrez pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on nine hits.
The Lobos will close out the weekend with a single-game against UNLV Sunday at 1 p.m. The event will be available on GameTracker at GoLobos.com.
