DENVER, Colo. - Saturday afternoon's exhibition versus Creighton was the final match of New Mexico's spring schedule. Coach Fishbein and company saved their best for last in their 7-1 victory over the Bluejays, who were a Final Four team last season. The Lobos' seven goals came off the feet of five different players, which included three freshmen who scored their first-ever goals for UNM.

Redshirt freshman Christopher Wehan, who had been active playing wide for New Mexico all spring, opened the match with the first goal of his Lobo career in the fifth minute. Wehan had recorded a handful assists this spring season from his midfielder position before burying a goal of his own on Saturday with the assist going to Mathew Gibbons.

Junior James Rogers scored the first of his two goals in the 21st minute, which was followed by Nick Miele's goal off a Wehan pass in the 32nd minute. It was the first goal for Miele since scoring in spring exhibition play versus Fort Lewis College last season.

Creighton did not find the back of the net in the first half to make it 3-0 New Mexico going into halftime. New Mexico picked up four more goals in the second half and nearly had a fifth in the 83rd minute. The Jays would get a second-half goal to break up the New Mexico clean sheet.

After Wehan scored in the first five minutes of the first half, freshman Josh Goss kept the scoring pace up in the second half as he scored just six minutes into the half. The goal, assisted by James Rogers, was the freshman's first since becoming a Lobo and one of his two goals on the day.

James Rogers would find the back of the net two minutes later off a Ben McKendry pass. That goal would be one of three scored by the Lobo attack in a twelve-minute span. Going back to Goss' goal in the 51st minute, UNM scored four goals in the first twenty minutes of the second half. The other goals were scored by Joe Harris (from Josh Goss) in the 61st minute and by Josh Goss (from James Rogers) in the 65th minute.

With the 7-1 lead, the Cherry & Silver nearly got their eighth goal of the match in the 83rd minute, but Christopher Wehan's shot off a set piece ricocheted off the cross bar.

For The Spring

Coach Jeremy Fishbein and the Lobos scored 21 goals during the spring season, which included wins over Creighton, Air Force, UC Riverside, Grand Canyon and Fort Lewis College. Leading the way in that scoring attack was James Rogers with six goals this spring and Michael Calderon with five.

The New Mexico backline and goalkeepers, Michael Lisch and Patrick Poblete, conceded just four goals in the entire exhibition schedule.
