ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Postseason play begins for the University of New Mexico women's basketball team, as they begin defense of their title, on Wednesday afternoon at the first round of the 2006 Xbox Live Mountain West Confernce Championship in Denver, Colo. New Mexico is the third seed in the tournament and their opening round opponent is the sixth seed UNLV. The two teams split their two regular season games, each winning on their home floor. Tip-off Wednesday from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and can be heard live on KNML 610 AM or viewed on CSTV.

TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the No. 19/21 Lobos of the University of New Mexico as the third seed taking on the sixth seed Lady Rebels of UNLV in the first round of the Xbox Live MWC Championship.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS: UNM is 21-8 on the season and finished tied for third in the conference at 11-5. The Lobos have wins over Oral Roberts in the first round of the preseason WNIT, Cal in the second round, at No. 12 Texas, Marist, Oklahoma State, No. 10 Minnesota, Louisiana Monroe, North Dakota State, No. 22 Utah, Wyoming, UNLV, TCU, BYU and home and away against New Mexico State, Colorado State, Air Force and San Diego State, with losses to Oklahoma twice, at No. 12 Arizona State, at TCU, at BYU, at Utah, at Wyoming and at UNLV. New Mexico is led in scoring by sophomore Dionne Marsh at 15.4 ppg. Senior Abbie Letz leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 rpg., while junior Katie Montgomery leads UNM in assists at 3.4 apg.

SCOUTING THE LADY REBELS: UNLV is currently 17-10 overall and finished sixth in the conference at 9-7. The Lady Rebels have wins over Alabama State, Stephen F. Austin, Tennessee Tech, Albany, Nevada, Jackson State, Troy, Lamar, Wyoming, TCU, New Mexico and home and away against Colorado State, Air Force and San Diego State, with losses at DePaul, at Cal, Texas A&M, at New Mexico, at Wyoming at TCU and home and away to BYU and Utah. Leading UNLV in scoring and assists is Sheena Moore at 13.3 ppg. and 3.3 apg. Sherry McCracklin leads the Lady Rebels in rebounding at 6.6 rpg.
