ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 22/25 University of New Mexico women's baskebtall team will close out its non-conference schedule Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, against the No. 8/7 University of Oklahoma in a top-25 matchup. The Lobos are 10-2 on the season, while the Sooners are 9-1 this year. Tip-off from the Cox Center is scheduled for 1:00 PM (MST) and can be heard live on 610 AM The Sports Animal.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Tonight's game features the Lobos of the University of New Mexico playing on the road against the Sooners of the University of Oklahoma in a non-conference matchup between two top-25 teams.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS: New Mexico is 10-2 this season with victories over Florida Atlantic (74-44), No. 25 Texas (63-60), Georgia Southern (64-43), Siena (78-39), New Mexico State (81-47 and 65-45), at Arizona (76-63), Sam Houston State (77-41), UCLA (72-63) and Northern Arizona (62-51) and losses to No. 12/13 Arizona State (67-49) and Nebraska (66-59). UNM is led in scoring by senior Julie Briody at 17.8 ppg and rebounding by junior Brandi Kimble at 6.4 rpg. Leading the Lobos in assists is senior Katie Montgomery at 3.4 apg.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS: Oklahoma is 9-1 on the year with wins over DePaul (105-71), Eastern Kentucky (92-79), Hawaii (76-56), UCLA (77-68), Lamar (79-44), Tulsa (72-49), South Carolina (78-51), Arkansas Pine Bluff (87-42) and Northern Colorado (82-36) and their lone loss to Ohio State (74-67). OU is led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore Courtney Paris at 21.5 ppg and 14.3 rpg, while Brtiney Brown leads them in assists at 5.2 apg.
THE COACHES: UNM is led by head coach Don Flanagan who enters his 12th season at New Mexico. Flanagan is 249-106 at UNM. The head coach of Oklahoma is Sherri Coale who is in her 11th year at OU and has a record of 213-114.
