ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico softball team fell to San Diego State, 6-1 Friday evening at Lobo Field. Freshman Stefanie Carramusa got the only run for the Lobos with a home run to center field. The Lobos will play their final game of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. against San Diego State. New Mexico will honor five seniors after the game on Saturday.
San Diego State scored first with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning by Brittany Knudsen to get the early 2-0 lead for the Aztecs.
With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Carramusa hit a solo shot to center field to cut the lead in half for the Lobos.
The Aztecs scored four more runs to end the game ahead 6-1. Justeen Maeva led San Diego State at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Knudsen went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a home run. Samantha Beasley (27-9) earned the win in the circle for the Aztecs (32-14, 10-4 Mountain West Conference) with five strikeouts.
Erin Brandow led the Lobos at the plate going 2-for-3. Carramusa went 1-for-3 on a home run. Jessica Lujan-Dresslar and Jessica Garcia both got a double for New Mexico.
