RUIDOSO, N.M. --- The New Mexico football team had the first of three scheduled two-a-day workouts Wednesday in Ruidoso. The Lobos hit the White Mountain Athletic Complex for just over two hours in the morning and returned for another two and a half hours in the evening. UNM continued the installation process and development. The Lobos have 10 days remaining in training camp as they prepare for the 2010 season opener on Sept. 4 at No. 11 Oregon.
In the morning session, the defense controlled the tempo from the beginning. The attitude and energy on the defensive side of the ball was noticeable. The defensive backs were shutting down the receivers, while the front line batted balls and forced pressure.
Offensively, UNM finally started playing during the final hour. Sophomore WR Ty Kirk led the way with multiple impressive grabs. Kirk slipped past the defense during a scrimmage situation and hauled in a B.R. Holbrook pass. Kirk also had critical catches during the final two-minute drill to end practice.
The emotions were high during the evening session as the team tried to get better. Sophomore RB Kasey Carrier stole the show on the ground. Carrier scored three times during the inside drill and was only touched once. He was able to dart through the holes and burst his way to the end zone. Carrier and fellow sophomore RB Demond Dennis both had nice runs during the scrimmage portion of practice.

Holbrook completed all his passes during 7-on-7 including a long connection with Kirk.
Freshman QB Stump Godfrey and senior WR Bryant Williams finished practice in stellar fashion. The ball was spotted just inside the 10-yard line and Godfrey was rolling out. He was able to utilize his speed to draw attention from the defense, but a perfectly floated pass to the back corner of the end zone that landed in Williams hands. It was timed perfectly by Williams who made the catch look easy. The play ignited the team and closed out the first day of two-a-days.
