Senior midfielder Jael Fanning was named to the 2011 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District 7 Women's Soccer Team.
Fanning, a product of Albuquerque, N.M., holds a current G.P.A. of 4.08 while majoring in Nutrition at the University of New Mexico.
The Lobo senior has tallied 10 assists this season to lead the Mountain West. Fanning has started all 20 games for New Mexico in the 2011 season.
Fanning is a three time recipient of the MW Academic All-Conference Award and MW Scholar-Athlete Award and was a 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Women's Soccer District 6 first-team selection.
The Academic All-America Team is set to be released on Thursday, Dec. 1. To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
Additionally, the student-athlete needs to have completed one full calendar year at his or her current institution and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
