Nicholls State Colonels vs. New Mexico Lobos
Postgame Head Coach Quotes
New Mexico head coach Don Flanagan:
Comments on tonight's game against Nicholls State:
"When I called the first timeout in the second half, I was a little bit disturbed with the way we were playing. A team like Nicholls State creates problems...usually you have like-like match-ups and we just didn't have that. Their quickness bothered us. ... Our offense was much better the second half. Amy (Beggin) got in foul trouble in the first half. When she's in there, we're a different team. We're just a lot faster, we set up our offense quicker. She defends the point guard much better. ...Everybody got to play, that is good for us...it keeps everybody motivated."
Comments on Amy Beggin's performance:
"She had 21 points. She only missed one shot all night. ...Three assists, one turnover and she's amazing with not turning the ball over. She didn't have any turnovers at California. I'm not sure she has more than three or four turnovers so far in five games. That's incredible. ...If we can get her to make a few more assists...and she continues to play error-free, she's going to have a great ratio, one of the better in the country."
Nicholls State head coach Mark Cook:
Comments on the game:
"I thought we did a good job hitting shots in the first half, I think it kind of surprised the Lobos. The second half we just didn't hit the shots. We didn't turn the ball over much, we only had nine turnovers for the game which I thought was pretty good for us. Our shooting from the field was horrible. They out rebounded us but we had a lot of missed shots to rebound. I think in a game like that you have to hit those open shots when you get them."
About the Pit:
"It's always good to come into an environment like this, and get them used to it. I told them you are playing in an arena that is an NCAA tournament playoff arena so you need to get used to playing in a place like this. They need to work hard so they can play in a place like this during the tournament in March."
