Recap?|? Final Stats?|? Notes

New Mexico Head Coach Rocky Long
"We made way too many mistakes to win a football game. We had way too many penalties, gave up kick returns, roughed punters, had six turnovers, didn't tackle very well the first half-thousands of mistakes and that's why you don't win football games."

"I don't think this has anything to do with them celebrating the Utah game. We played a lousy football game. We made way too many mistakes. It has nothing to do with last week."

"[The loss] hurts your chances, but I've said this all along, I think the conference champ is going to have two losses."

UNLV Head Coach John Robinson
"We had built a good offensive first half, the best against them maybe with the exception of Texas Tech. We felt we had the right things going and [QB Kurt Nantkes] was playing very well. Once [Nantkes left with an injury], we were severely limited, but we kept going. We got a few first downs here and there and got a field goal. They tore up our defense pretty good, but we didn't quit. They kept playing and scrambling around. I thought the field goal was a huge play in the second half and then Jamaal Brimmer's interception was obviously dramatic. That was one of the best defenses I've seen. We were without our quarterback, but it was fun to see them play and fight and come up with a victory that was not easy."

New Mexico Defensive End Zach Rupp
"They came ready to play more than we did. I think we got better as the game went along, but our emotions got the better of us early on. I think we regrouped and played well in the second half, but we just made too many mistakes early. Next week starts tomorrow. We are going to come back, try to eliminate our mistakes and get ready to play."

New Mexico Wide Receiver Dwight Counter
"We made too many mistakes to win. We can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot and expect to be successful. I thought we were going to win until the very last play, but that's not the way it worked out. Our goal is to win the Mountain West Conference and that took a hit tonight. We need to win out and hope somebody can beat Utah."

(On the team's state of mind heading into the bye-week): This is a good win for us. Overall we got a good opportunity to prepare for San Diego State when we get back into conference."
