ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Lobos came out this weekend fired up and ready to play ball. Their hard work at practice paid off, shutting down El Paso CC in a doubleheader this Saturday 5-0, and 12-0, respectively.
In the first game senior Ashley Perkins led the Lobos on the mound, throwing a complete game shutout, striking out three and allowing only 5 hits. Perkins also recieved tremendous run support from the hot bats of the Lobo starting lineup. Freshman shortstop Christina Rios made a huge impact for her Lobo debut, going 2-3 with an RBI. Senior left fielder Kelli Edelbrock had a steller game going 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Freshman designated player Ashley Allen also had a fine day at the plate adding two more RBIs to the Lobos run total.
Junior Katie Gregg replicated Perkins' performance in game two, tossing a five-hit complete game with three strikeouts. Senior third baseman Cassie Chavez led the Lobos at the plate, going 4-4 with two singles, two doubles, three runs scored, one RBI and a stolen base. Senior first baseman Ashley Shartzer and Allen were both 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Edelbrock and junior Kristina Schmallen were 1-3 with two runs scored.
The Lobos wrap up fall ball action this weekend, Oct. 15-17, at the University of Arizona Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
