Former Lobo Gayle Tripp will be in Slovenia for two weeks participating in the Bring It Promotions Women's Fire Sale Tour. The training tour provides players an opportunity to be seen by coaches from all over the world.
Tripp, a 2009 UNM graduate, finished her UNM career as the all-time digs leader with 1,578. The Rio Rancho native also was an All-Mountain West Conference honoree following her senior year.
Tripp left Albuquerque on Aug. 15 to begin training in Maribor, Slovenia on Aug. 17. The tour includes two days of training and six days of competition before wrapping up on Aug. 26.
"This is really exciting for me," said Tripp during a recent visit to campus. "I pay my way right now and after two weeks hopefully get signed by one of the teams scouting us out."
Tripp kept in touch with the BIP staff over the past two years following her summer tour in 2007 to Italy. She was named Libero of the Tournament in the 2007 Global Challenge. If Tripp is signed by a team, her season will start in October.
Former Lobo teammate Jeanne Fairchild spent the spring playing professionally in Puerto Rico. Fairchild is currently back in Albuquerque finishing her degree in Communications & Journalism, while coaching at Bosque School.
