Lobos Host First Outdoor Meet

Albuquerque, N.M.- The University of New Mexico track and field team will be hosting their first outdoor meet of the season this Saturday. The 20th Don Kirby Memorial Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw that will be taking place behind the Lobo softball field west of University Blvd. All other events will take place at the G.F.O. UNM Track Stadium. Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for children. Students get in free with their student I.D.

Several of New Mexico's distance runners will travel to the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford, Calif. Competition takes place Saturday with events beginning at 4:45 MST.

Lee Emanuel will travel to Oregon this weekend for the Oregon Relays. Emanuel will be running the 1500m, where he will be looking to shed time off his personal best (3:37.25) in the event. For live results go to Oregon Relays

Don Kirby Memorial Invitational

Events begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude after the 4x400 relay at 5:30.

Lobo Watch: Senior Sandy Fortner will be competing in the 100m hurdles and the shot put. Fellow standout Deanna Young will compete in the triple jump. Young holds the top spot in the Mountain West Conference and third best mark in the country in the triple jump with a mark of 43-10.75 according to TFRRS.org.

On the men's side sophomore transfer Lamaar Thomas will be competing in the 100m dash and fellow football player Ty Kirk will compete in both the triple jump and the long jump.

Schools that will be in attendance are New Mexico State, UTEP, Colorado College, Central Arizona Community College, New Mexico Junior College and South Plains Texas Community College.

Albuquerque Weather: Saturday is supposed to be in the low 60s with a 30 percent chance of rain.

Lobo Watch: Senior Rory Fraser will compete in his first outdoor race of the season. Fraser will be running the 5,000m.

Teammate David Bishop will run the 1500m. Bishop currently leads the MWC with a time of 3:43.73.

Weather: Temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s with light winds, perfect for running.
