UNM Softball Opens The Alabama Crimson Classic Friday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- New Mexico softball travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., this weekend to take part in the Hampton Inn Crimson Classic. The three-day event is hosted by the University of Alabama and will be played at the UA Softball Facility. UNM opens the tournament against Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. Friday and plays No. 2 Alabama at 4 p.m. Saturday's schedule includes a battle with Middle Tennessee State at 11 a.m. before entering bracket play during the afternoon and Sunday. The games will be available via gametracker with live audio available for selected games on www.GoLobos.com.

Lobos Win Three Game Set With Evansville - New Mexico softball went 2-1 in the opening weekend after taking two of three from Evansville. The Lobos hit .347 against the Purple Aces with eight doubles and five home runs. UNM won its first season opening game since 2001.

Loeffelholz Shines Against Purple Aces - Sophomore Sara Loeffelholz hit .714 in three games last weekend including her first home run of the year. The sophomore from Omaha, Neb., had two multiple hit games including going 2-for-3 in game two of a doubleheader with a double and homer. Loeffelholz had five hits in seven at-bats while recording four RBI and scored twice. She started all three games in the outfield and helped UNM take two of three from Evansville to open the year.

Ninemire Dominates Evansville In Season Opener - Ninemire was the opening day starter for New Mexico and pitching the Lobos to their first victory of the season. Ninemire pitched seven innings striking out eight and allowing a run on five hits. She pitched out of numerous jams to secure a 4-1 victory for New Mexico. It was the first opening day victory since 2001. Ninemire finished the weekend with a 1-0 record and a 1.00 earned run average.

Elcess Continues To Climb Career Charts - Senior Lindsey Elcess hit .500 in three games after going 4-for-8 at the plate. Elcess had two doubles and two home runs while helping UNM win two games. Elcess moved into fourth place on the all-time home run list with 20 career homers and jumped into eight on the all-time doubles list with 30.

UNM Goes Deep In Opening Weekend - The Lobos hit five home runs as a team during the opening weekend including two by senior Lindsey Elcess. Elcess was one of two UNM players to finish the weekend hitting over. 500. Sophomore Sara Loeffelholz started the year in tremendous fashion after hitting .714 in three games including her first home run. Along with Elcess and Loeffelholz, freshman Kim Holyfield and Tianna George belted homers.
