MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Five members of the New Mexico Lobo men's golf team played their opening round at the 104th U.S. Amateur today. Seniors Jay Reynolds and Madalitso Muthiya and juniors Mark Anderson and Jay Choi played the par-70, 6,775 yard Winged Foot Golf Club East Course, while junior Spencer Levin played the par-70, 7266 yard Winged Foot Golf Club West Course. Levin is the top current UNM golfer in a tie for second place after an even-par round of 70. Anderson also is under the cut line after a first round 74, to tie for 51st. Other UNM results are Reynolds is tied for 137th at 7-over par (77) and Choi is tied for 191st at 9-over par. Muthiya along with several other golfers did not finish their opening round due to lightning and are scheduled to finish their round in the morning before second round play begins. The U.S. Amateur continues tomorrow with 18-holes of stroke play. The 312 golfers will then be cut to 64 following tomorrows round. The remaining 64 players will be bracketed and the individuals will play a match-play format, with the final two playing on Sunday, August 22.
