Albuquerque, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a Meet ‘n’ Greet with their fans on Saturday, September 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Pit. The event rounds out a full slate of events over Homecoming weekend highlighted by UNM’s football game with Sam Houston State on Saturday.
The Meet ‘N’ Greet is a free event for the public, and fans can enter The Pit at the Northeast corner of The Pit through the Frontier/Golden Pride foyer. Regular parking rules for a football game day apply. There will be interactive stations set up as well as a chance to get autographs from all your favorite Lobos. To participate in the activities on The Pit floor, fans must wear tennis shoes. No dress shoes or black-soled shoes will be allowed on the court.
“This is a great way for the community to interact with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams before the football game,” said head coach Steve Alford. Head women’s basketball coach Yvonne Sanchez added, “I know the players on both teams are excited to meet their fans in a fun environment.”
The Meet ‘N’ Greet is the first of two fan-friendly basketball events, as the Lobo Howl will return on October 14 after a one-year absence, and a two-year absence from The Pit. The Lobo Howl will run from 6-9 p.m., with the women’s team taking the court at 7 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. The Opening Drive and The Sports Bar will broadcast live from The Pit that day, along with the Scott Stiegler Show.
Along with the Meet ‘N’ Greet and the Homecoming football game, the men’s and women’s soccer teams are hosting a doubleheader on Friday night starting at 5 p.m. that is “Stuff the Stadium” night, and volleyball team hosts TCU in their conference opener at 7 p.m. that night as well. That night is “Jam Johnson” and “Love Red Live Green” night.
The UNM women’s golf team also hosts the Branch Law Firm/McGuire Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
